Devoted to the early diagnosis and treatment of Breast Cancer
According to national statistics, one in eight women will be diagnosed with breast cancer at some point during their lifetime. Dr. Scott Timbert , who leads the team of skilled breast surgeons at Southern Crescent Breast Specialists, is dedicated to the compassionate care and successful treatment of women who are facing the trauma of breast cancer.
Located in a new, 7,000-square-foot, state-of-the-art facility at Lake Spivey, the offices of Southern Crescent Breast Specialists are conveniently connected to the new digital breast center at Spivey Station that provides digital mammograms, ultrasounds, and stereotactic biopsy services for patients. The on-site surgery center offers access to outpatient ambulatory surgery.
The Southern Crescent Breast Specialists doctors know that facing the possibility of breast cancer can be terrifying, so they do all they can to ensure their patients get diagnostic test results quickly, followed by prompt treatment if necessary. If a patient needs diagnostic studies, they are provided on the initial consult with the radiologist interpreting the studies real time. If a minimally invasive biopsy can be done during the initial consult, the patient can be advised of the pathology results within 24 hours. The quick turnaround shortens the patient's time of anticipation, while ensuring that treatment can begin sooner rather than later.
"The ultimate goal is to reduce the time from detection to diagnosis of breast abnormalities," says Dr. Timbert. Dr. Timbert is a trusted leader in his field. Southern crescent Breast Specialists is one of only a few practices on the Southside of Atlanta with more than 10 years of experience performing the sentinel node biopsy, a procedure that prevents unnecessary removal of lymph nodes and reduces the risk of arm swelling and numbness in the arm. Through this technique, 80 percent of patients avoid having all axillary lymph nodes removed. Southern Crescent Breast Specialists surgeons work hard to significantly shorten the time of uncertainty between detection and diagnosis of breast abnormalities, while making sure patients have access to all of the latest treatments for breast cancer.
