Caring for Kids
A Lifestyles Top Doc for the past five years, Dr. Sekhar Sankaran cares for each child with warmth, friendliness and confidence.
"There are no white coats here!" says Dr. Sekhar C. Sankaran of McDonough Pediatrics, P.C. "We understand that going to the doctor can be intimidating for children, so our colorful clothing and cheerful attitudes are all part of our effort to make each child feel at ease."
Dr. Sankaran says that children have different needs than adults, and he has designed every aspect of his office to be kid-friendly. There are two, large waiting areas with plenty of toys and books. A huge saltwater wall aquarium with brightly-colored tropical fish divides the waiting areas into sick and well rooms, and there is a separate waiting area for adolescents.
The profession of caring for others runs in Dr. Sankaran's family. His father was a family physician who inspired him to also become a doctor. Dr. Sankaran received his medical training in India and completed his pediatric residency at Emory.
Being a pediatrician for more than 30 years has given Dr. Sankaran the opportunity to watch numerous children grow up and become adults. He loves working with children, and knowing that he has had a positive impact on their lives makes his job worthwhile. The compassionate and caring staff at McDonough Pediatrics includes two nurse practitioners. Many in the office have been there since the practice opened in 1992 and have established relationships with many of the patients. The clinic offers same-day appointments for sick children who need to get in right away. Dr. Sankaran knows children, and parents feel confident trusting the care of their children to his clinic.
